Montana is Magical,
full of grandeur and awe-inspiring beauty. As the waters of the Yellowstone flow and the Absaroka Mountains emerge from the prairie, we find inspiration everywhere we look. The weathered barn that has stood against the harshest winters speaks to strength and resiliency. The cottonwood tree is a gathering place of unexpected majesty and hidden beauty. The bugle of a rutting bull elk is the freedom and wildness that burns within us all. Each of our tiny homes are uniquely Montana.

Woodland Ridge Tiny Home Crafters is Montana’s premiere, luxury tiny home builder. Your build is created and constructed to be exceptional. Excellent workmanship is what we do. The beauty and artistry shine through. We hand craft each element of your tiny home to the highest of standards.

Our Story

Woodland Ridge Tiny Homes is more than just a company—it’s the result of nearly two decades of friendship, trust, and shared vision between Rick and Cody. For almost 20 years, they have explored the rugged landscapes of Montana together, sharing adventures, ideas, and challenges.

The idea for Woodland Ridge Tiny Homes took shape during a trip into the mountains. As Rick and Cody sat atop a mountain ridge, surrounded by nature’s beauty and vast landscape, they started on their tiny home journey. They envisioned an alternative housing solution that wasn’t defined by excess but by quality, simplicity, and the ability to live freely.

That vision became even clearer in the uncertainty of all the 2020 chaos. As housing costs skyrocketed and traditional real estate became out of reach for many, they saw an opportunity to offer an alternative—beautifully crafted, sustainable tiny homes that provide financial freedom, flexibility, and security.

Starting in a humble horse barn at Cody’s house as their first workshop, they set out to make their vision a reality. Despite the challenges of supply shortages and economic instability, they pushed forward, believing in the impact that tiny homes could have on the real estate market. Their goal was simple: to redefine housing by creating attainable, high-quality living solutions that empower people to live on their own terms.

As demand for their homes grew, so did the company. Through three major expansions, Woodland Ridge Tiny Homes refined its designs, improved its building process, and assembled an incredible team with diverse backgrounds—skilled builders, dedicated craftsmen, and problem-solvers, all dedicated to crafting homes that blend functionality, beauty, and efficiency.
Today, Woodland Ridge Tiny Homes has tiny homes across the country, providing smart, sustainable living solutions for individuals, families, and communities. From mountain homes to modern backyard ADUs, each home is built with care, integrity, and a deep understanding of what makes a house a home.

Though they’ve grown, the mission remains the same: to build high-quality, handcrafted tiny homes that fit your lifestyle and inspire a new way of living.

Rick Gilliland

Co-Founder & Owner

Rick Gilliland is co-founder and owner of Woodland Ridge Tiny Home Crafters, Montana’s premier luxury tiny home builder. Previously, Rick enjoyed more than 36 years of service with a major airline. Much of that time was spent in leadership positions where he learned the value of providing a top quality product with integrity backed by outstanding customer service. These values guide him each and every day in growing relationships with his customers and in the production of tiny homes at Woodland Ridge. No matter the project, he ensures every home reflects the quality, durability, and attention to detail that Woodland Ridge Tiny Homes is known for.

Jeremy Jacobsen

Jeremy Jacobsen

Shop Manager

Jeremy was our very first hire, back when Woodland Ridge was just a dream in a dusty horse barn. He’s been with us from the start, helping shape not just our homes, but everything we do. Before stepping into the tiny home world, Jeremy spent 24 years with Livingston Fire & Rescue, retiring as a Fire Inspector and Critical Care Paramedic. After that, he worked 8 years as an electrician, which means he knows his way around wires, tools, and getting things done the right way.

These days, Jeremy runs the shop, keeps the builds on track, and somehow still makes time to help everyone else. When he’s not at work, you’ll find him cheering on the Raiders or floating a Montana river with a PBR in hand. Jeremy and his wife have 5 kids and a bunch of dogs running around.

Allison Smith

Allison Smith

Operations

Allison Smith joined Woodland Ridge Tiny Home Crafters after a 30-year career in public health and nonprofit leadership. Understanding that attainable housing is critical to helping people who contribute to their community actually get to live in their community, she hired Woodland Ridge to design and build her first two tiny home shells to be placed on a permanent foundation in Red Lodge, MT. The tiny homes are now long-term rentals for a ski patroller and Forest Service employee, both of whom were losing their housing due to the owners selling.

Missing the days of installing flooring, building stairs, and managing subcontractors, Allison talked Woodland Ridge into letting her stick around to work in operations as the business grows. Allison and her husband have one son. She loves downhill skiing, paddleboarding, live music and hanging out with her pup.

Ben Hahn

Ben Hahn

Homeownership Advisor

Ben Hahn brings a unique blend of hands-on experience and leadership to Woodland Ridge Tiny Home Crafters. Ben spent two years living the tiny home lifestyle firsthand with his wife. His story was chronicled on HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters. Not only did he live in a tiny home, but he was also a national distributor in the tiny house industry. His work with a previous tiny house company has given him deep industry insight and a passion for helping others simplify and thrive.

Before returning to the world of tiny homes, Ben built a successful career in education—as a teacher, coach, and now a dedicated school administrator. At Woodland Ridge, he draws on his diverse background to help people find the home of their dreams, invest in income properties, or create workforce housing solutions for businesses. Ben and his wife have a young son that they love sharing all that Montana has to offer with. When he isn’t talking about tiny homes, you can find Ben with a bow, barbell, or fly rod in his hand.

Our Sustainable Promise

Inspected and Certified

Each home carries with it a certification from the National Organization of Alternative Housing (NOAH). NOAH incorporates safety, structural, and energy efficiency standards currently used by the Recreational Vehicle and Home Building industries. They ensure that the standards of the ANSI, NFPA, and NEC have all been met. Each build is inspected a minimum of 5 times. The inspections are of the foundation, framing, all-trades (electrical, plumbing, and HVAC), insulation, and final. Each inspection is stored on their secure cloud as an unalterable digitized record, which is available to the homeowner.
